SPEAK (Speaking Proficiency English Assessment Kit) is a test for evaluating the English speaking ability of non-native speakers of English. SPEAK is designed by Educational Testing Services (ETS), and is the institutional version of the Test of Spoken English. At FSU, the SPEAK test is administered by the Center for Intensive English Studies to international students who may be awarded a graduate assistantship in an academic department at Florida State University.

If you are an international non-performance applicant and are not required to perform a live audition on-campus, you must make arrangements to take the SPEAK test in order to be considered for a Graduate Assistantship.
The SPEAK test is administered on-campus in the Language Lab at the Center for Intensive English Studies in the Hecht House at 634 W Call Street. The test takes approximately 30 minutes to complete. The lab can accommodate approximately 16 students at one time. PLEASE BRING A PHOTO ID TO THE EXAM. There is no charge for the first time that a student takes the SPEAK test.
